About Trans-Form.11th - 25th January 2016, Ahmedabad, India.
Saturday 23rd January: Carnival Parade: Kankaria Lake, Gate 3, 4:00pm - 5:00pm. Drop-in Costume Making Workshops: Kankaria Lake, Gate 3, 1:00 - 2:30pm Trans-Form is a volunteer based project that engages UK and Indian artists with schools and communities in Ahmedabad, India, in an educational, arts-based programme of workshops, transforming waste into carnival and street arts. The project began in 2014 with support from Arts Council England. Since then the project has continued on a voluntary basis and works with schools and NGO's to engage 500 children with limited or basic access to education. Children learn new skills that will support their educational and creative development, aiming at having an economic impact in their lives. Recycling and environmental issues are the inspiration for the projects' artistic output, and UK artists design activities that will develop ways the students can question and understand the principles of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) by using recycled materials and transforming waste into art. A two-week residency of workshops culminates in a celebratory carnival parade at Kankaria Lake, Gate 3, at 4:00pm on Saturday 23 January, where all participants, from varying backgrounds, come together to parade their creations. |
